White Rabbit Acres is a 30 acre family owned and operated certified Organic Farm located in Vero Beach, Florida. We have been farming and practicing good stewardship of the land here since 1999, and it is our mission to provide quality food directly to the consumer.  Our largest crop is certified organic turmeric, but we also grow a small amount of produce available for purchase from our neighbors, Peterson’s Groves and Nursery.

Why Organic? – We don’t grow organic to be hip or trendy or take more of your money. We honestly believe in conservative farming practices that bring clean, high quality food to the consumer. We care about the land we grow on and try our best to recycle nutrients back into the soil where they belong. With anything in life, when you start with a good base you get a good end result. The same principle applies to farming, when you treat the land as a WHOLE as best you can with organic practices you end up with a better product. The soil is treated like a long term investment instead of a quick trade, and the nutritional value of the end product whether it is meat or vegetables is far better for you.

Organic Red Turmeric (CURCUMA LONGA)

NOW OFFERING ORGANIC GREEN TURMERIC ( CURCUMA AERUGINOSA). I HAVE TO APOLOGIZE HERE, WE WERE ORIGINALLY CALLING THIS BLACK TURMERIC! THEN WE SAW THAT MOST PEOPLE CONSIDER “BLACK” TO BE THE VARIETY THAT IS VIOLET BLUE INSIDE. SO WE HAVE BEEN CALLING IT “WHITE”, (CURCUMA ZEDOARIA), SO FAR THIS SEASON. WELL, THAT’S NOT RIGHT EITHER, WHITE TURMERIC IS ALSO KNOWN AS “MANGO” AND IS DEFINITELY NOT GREEN INSIDE. I BELIEVE WE HAVE FINALLY PROPERLY IDENTIFIED THIS VARIETY, AND I AM SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION. I THINK I SEE WHY THIS HAS BEEN SO TRICKY TO SORT OUT. IT SEEMS IT WAS JUST 2014 WHEN RESEARCHERS CHANGED THEIR MIND AND DECIDED THIS WAS NOT THE SAME VARIETY AS “BLACK”, (CURCUMA CAESIA). I AM GOING TO GO WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII AND START CALLING IT “GREEN”. MAKES SENSE TO ME AS IT IS DEFINITELY A LIME GREEN INSIDE. OF COURSE, NOW IT WILL BE CONFUSING BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL THINK IT’S GREEN AS IN NOT RIPE YET, AND I PROBABLY WON’T SELL ANY BECAUSE NO ONE EVER HEARD OF IT. AN INTERNET SEARCH OF COMMON NAMES BRINGS UP “BLACK GINGER”, PINK AND BLUE GINGER”, “HIDDEN LILLY”, AND MORE VERNACULAR NAMES IN INDIA, MALAYSIA, ETC. I WILL POST MORE INFORMATION AS TO IT’S USES, BUT I CAN TELL YOU IT IS A LOT “STRONGER” TASTING THAN THE RED, IT IS MORE OF A MEDICINAL USE THAN A FOOD PRODUCT.
